Change is ….

The Corrigan Encore podcast is moving its day of the week to Friday. I know what you are thinking. What the heck is the Corrigan Encore podcast? Well, since you thought it and I can read thoughts allow me to answer. The Corrigan Encore Podcast is a podcast starring me and Benjamin Palladino. Each week Ben and I talk about a subject and interview someone who is intimately familiar with and doing something interesting in this subject. Prior to this week Ben and I have “dropped” each podcast on Wednesday now that is changing to Friday. I have a list of boring reasons why but I just wanted to let you know about the change.

Change can be scary, exciting, and fun all at the same time. In business there are resources and people that are dedicated to change, because change is a process and people need leadership through the change.

Because change is so overwhelming often change is framed in ones mind as a negative thing. Many Psychologists suggest that we engage in Cognitive Reframing when we encounter things like change.

Cognitive Reframing is a technique in which one shifts their mindset to consider the positive results of every situation. Its a 5 dollar word group for “always look on the bright side”, and maybe a little more.

Cognitive Reframing is not just overt optimism it is a technique that changes ones point of view and allows us to see all sides of a situation more clearly. I know that the change from Wednesday to Friday is most likely not causing you much stress, especially since you have no idea what the Corrigan Encore Podcast is to begin with however some change maybe causing you some stress and I urge you to try out the cognitive reframing techniques and perhaps you will alleviate stress, gain insight, and grow.

Only 15 minutes

This morning I woke up late and threw off my entire routine. To be on time for work I had to cut my 30 minute work out down to 15 and I considered cancelling the workout altogether but, I decided that 15 was better than nothing.

When I worked in a factory there was a goal of continuous improvement. The process involved learning, sharing and implementing. The process was done on every shift by every team and it was self -perpetuating. The idea was to get just a little better every shift at the process always striving for perfection.

Get 1% better everyday

Chris Nikic

If you did get only 1% better everyday at the end of a year you would be 365% better than you were at the start. I love water, the ocean, streams, lakes cenotes, I am there. Water moves and over time erodes. The objects that water erodes become sediment and are moved. After very long periods of time water can and does change landscapes. Water is a visualization for just how alive our planet is and the idea that small things make huge changes.

You may not feel like you have much time and that with little time not much can be done, but 15 minutes adds up and it can change the landscape.

Make it so

When I was younger I struggled with math. My mom used money and making change to help me with math and more specifically fractions. Ever since those lessons about making change I have been quite interested in money and making change.

Change is defined as altering the state of something or making something different. Did you know that things you do every day change the DNA in your body? Here is a pretty interesting article about the type of DNA and how often it changes. Of course most of the changes we make to our DNA are small and our bodies DNA is still so unique that it can be used as an identifier but, the fact still remains that we are constantly changing.

Change can be exciting and scary. I think most of us love routines and schedules and change to these things can “throw off” our grooves. I have had friends in retirement age take custody of grandkids, this is a big change for them and I am sure they were a little bit frightened. My friends are adjusting and now a change would be not raising their grandchild.

That word adjusting is a little misleading isn’t it? There is a lot to change. Here is another blog post dealing with change. One take away from the article from the last link for me was the concept of using change to create positive outcomes. Is this possible? I have to say yes. I have seen people change from victims to survivors and even champions just by changing their mindset. These people understand how to use their input to make all change positive.

When I was a kid I liked change more than dollars. You only had one dollar for every 100 pennies! I would much rather carry around pennies. As an adult I look at pennies as a hassle.. The penny did not loose its value I changed my mindset.

Once you realize you have this power and start exercising it I would be shocked if you were not rewarded with some incredible results. Be positive today, change will happen and that positivity is your tool to make that change good.
