Who are you mad at?

Last year my niece told me that her favorite song was “I’m mad at Disney” by Salem Ilese. We were at the pool and I almost fell out of the chair. This is a seven year old who owns all the princess dresses. Then I listened to the song and me the tow of us did a Tik Tok Video with her dancing to the song.

The song “I’m mad at Disney” is very catchy and the singer has a beautiful voice. The lyrics are not profound but they touch on a topic that I call growing up. When I was seven, eight, nine, ten all the way to basically high school, I was being raised on a diet of pop culture that included John Hughes movies, Comic books, GI Joe and Double Dare.

In the song “I’m Mad at Disney” the singer mentions how life is not really a fairy tale and life and love is messy. Salem and my niece are right kind of. Life and love are messy and most fairy tales are clean but, life and love are hopeful and fun and can be full of joy just like a fairy tale.

I like watching plays with little kids in them. Sometimes the kids come out know all their lines and crush it and sometimes the kids come out know none of their lines fall all over the set and still crush it. How can this be? How can the kid get up there forget their lines and stumble around and still crush it? Because, love. With an audience full of loving and supportive family and friends no one ever fails. Life is kind of the same way. If you are loving and surround yourself with loving people than you haven’t ever really failed and your life is like a fairy tale just a messy more real one.

It just showed up

The show Once Upon a Time is a twist on all the western fairy tales told and the show is set in modern day New York as well as the enchanted forest. In the first season all the characters have lost their memories and our living in a small town outside New York.

With no memory Snow White, is a teacher and she gives a book of fairy tales to a student. She tells the students that the book just showed up at her house like magic. The book was placed at her house it was all part of the magical curse.

I love a certain company that has a website. The company lets you order anything from A to Z and the company can and does send products to my door the day after I order them. The coyote from the Looney Tunes was a futurist. IT feels like magic but that package doesn’t arrive on my doorstep through some spell or curse. The magic is done through logistics, airplane, and truck travel.

it’s like magic

I have been binge watching the Once upon a Time tv show lately on the Disney + streaming service. It’s a pretty good show in that fairy tale hokey kind of way. I hate to admit it but I have truly enjoyed the show. A lot of fun. The man Walt Disney has a complicated past, but he has created an entertainment universe that never fails to illicit joy, love, pain, laughter and drama out of everyone who watches one of the movies shows or attends a park.

My daughter was diagnosed with chrons disease and has had a pretty rough life, however through some surgeries and medicine she has been able to control her disease and live her life. I feel like it is magic and miraculous watching the doctors help her they way they have but I know that it is hard work. Sleepless nights from the doctors and nurses that nurse her and bring her back to health.

Boxes don’t just show up and people do not magically heal. Hard work dedication empathy and compassion is what is required to make miraculous and magical things happen.

On the Disney + streaming service there is another show that I like (Disney + is amazing if you haven’t you should subscribe to it). The show is about each attraction at the Disney parks and how they were made. Walt Disney was a visionary with a shared vision that feels like magic but he and his staff worked hard and the staff continues to work hard everyday to bring this vision to millions.

Life is hard and we need magic sometimes but magic comes with a price and that price is again hard work, dedication and empathy. The price of magic is love. If you are doing anything without love you are doing it wrong.

Love for yourself, your family, your community love for the world. With love anything is impossible.
